Can Wall Protection Be Stylish?

For anyone tasked with decorating and maintaining a building, such as a hospital, school or office, finding the balance between practicality and style is problematic. In any place with a high volume of people traffic, wall protection is an issue.

Most of the wall protection we see is placed in hospitals, so those people who work in them or visit patients regularly will be familiar with it. Wall protection is a common fixture in hospital corridors, to protect against damage by trolleys. Nowadays, hospitals are decorated in such a way to create a positive, relaxing environment for patients and staff. Luckily, wall protection isn’t all drab.In fact huge ranges are available in a variety of colours, materials and patterns. Wall protection and handrails in contrasting colours to the walls are a requirement by some regulations for the partially sighted. This allows designers to be a little more creative.

In schools, corridors are also at risk from passing rucksacks, computer trolleys and general hustle and bustle. School corridors suffer hustle and bustle which can damage their walls. Wall protection is frequently seen in educational establishments. As with hospitals, décor in schools is increasingly considered as a way to provide an uplifting and positive atmosphere.

Offices, too, suffer at the hands of tea trolleys and bumps from delivery boxes. Traditional plastic wall protection is often at odds with the sophisticated look office managers are aiming for. Fortunately, most tastes can be catered for with wide ranges of wall protection. There is also the option of bespoke wall protection which could be in corporate colours or bear a company logo.

Perhaps you don’t think this is relevant to you. Wall protection does have a place in the home too.Homes with, for example, gym equipment or wheelchair users may suffer wall scratches and chips. More discreet wall protection is available for such circumstances.
Functionality is no longer the sole consideration behind wall protection. Wall protection isn’t about to become the next big thing, but it’s more stylish than it’s ever been.
